Casey Jones by Lok Ian

First!

I'm afraid I'll have to say, despite being a fan of TMNT when I was little, I have no recollection of this Casey Jones character, all I remembered was Donatello and his long hard bo staff... Or may be I'm remembering something else...

Anyway! Another week, another attempt at a different style, this week: markers and photoshop.

Say nothing about the cityscape, Joe. :D

Hope you all like it! :3

Goongala!

Since Snapper's a lazy good-for-nothing, and isn't posting a Howl pic; I figured I may as well post my choice for the next Doomed Patrol task early, and it's someone I've been meaning to have a go at drawing for a long while now. This week, we will be drawing... Casey Jones!

Casey was always a favourite of mine in all the various branches of the TMNT universe. Looking back now I see he was probably just a product of the eighties/nineties attempts to make everything "extreme" and such. He does also serve as a pretty good parody of the whole gritty anti-hero obsession though, and the concept of a sporting goods-wielding vigilante is still undeniably pretty cool.

Have fun with it, lawbreakers!

Howl by Abi

My turn to draw the character I chose!

Howl's Moving Castle is one of my favourite Ghibli movies, so I found drawing Howl came to me quite easily. Coloured quickly in photoshop with a subtle bit of "cell shaded" style colouring, to fit with the manga style. :)

Howl by Lok Ian Leong

Here be my Howl for this week! Brush, dip pen, ink and photoshop, I think I'm finally settling on a style of my own. Thank you, Doomed Patrol! :D

Oh, and enjoy!

Why won't Blogger let me put my image under the text? Why does it always pushes my text down? Can someone teach me how to use this bloody blogger?! D:

Howl by Mike Harman

This weeks - I laughed at Matruss's's Howl and though HELLS YES YES that's what it's all about eh? Having fun, damn good fun and so I made this.

Hopefully I'm not the only one who remembers the annoying Howard from the Halifax advert. (And his terrible cover version of sex bomb, which has plagued my brain since thinking of the idea. EXTRA-EXTRA-EXect) If I am- then this makes no sense to you and I appear older than the dinosaurs that invented the world (up yours logic) over 4.5 billion years ago (up yours Christians)

Then I thought- although it made me laugh most of the morning, It looks pretty rubbish and took about 5 minutes. So I stopped dicking around and then put this real Howl picture together. Enjoy it, Love it, Print out a copy and Stick it on your forehead. I could do with the publicity and you good sir/madam could use a hat.

Great fun doing this one. Kept it nice and sketchy again and used the iPad. One hour total. Decided to give Howl a sort of Sephiroth feel by including one of his wings from his transformation there under the coat. Really love the moving castle in the background too. Hope y'all enjoy!

Howl by Mattruss

Now I despise most manga and anime but have immense respect for a select few. Studio Ghibli films are one of the ones I love. Notice details like the feathers and the key ring he has. I originally started work on a picture of Howl and the Scarecrow jumping, when this idea for the joke came into my head. The image is a tad rough, but it's only purpose is the joke really. So here goes nothing.

Howl - Howl's Moving Castle

And so, with all of our Garrett/Marian Hawke illustrations posted up, it's my turn to set the next character challenge!

Studio Ghibli is very close to my heart, so I thought it would be fitting to choose a character from one of their films. I've selected Howl, of Howl's moving castle, because I felt he had enough complexity that whoever was illustrating could add as much or as little character detail as they wanted, depending on their style.

For an overview of the film see the Wikipedia article here, and for character reference the google image search here.

Howl has a number of visages including a weird bird thing, so you can we can all take our pick when illustrating.

And that's it really. Hope everyone enjoys it! :)

Dragon Age by L.A Jackson

A second guest art for the Dragon Age challenge! This playful piece was done by LA Jackson whose site you should check out here. Dig that blue!

Garrett Hawke by Snapper

Have been busy as heck lately so only had time to do a quick sketch, acrylics and pen on cheap moleskine

Marian Hawke by Abi

I'm a huge Dragon Age fan, so I was super happy to get to draw this character! Again I've been really busy this week, so I made it a quick one (which may be abundantly clear from my colouring).

In this image Marian Hawke is preparing for battle, drawing her sword and activating a sustained ability, which is called "bravery", if you were wondering. :P

Garrett Hawke - Mike Harman

I love games I do! Here's a (shaky) photo of my top games I have enjoyed from various platforms. I haven't played either of the Dragon Age games but, from reading up about it the closest I've been is maybe something like Oblivion-Elder Scrolls? Who knows! Adventures, Dragons, Swords and Magic. The stuff games were made for! Here is a picture of Garrett Hawke for you to enjoy, or hate on as applicable.

Garrett Hawke by JoeHullion

Love Dragon Age: Origins and looking forward to playing Dragon Age II SOOOOO much. Sketch done on iPad as usual, and took me about an hour and a half again start-to-finish. Had a lot of fun doing this one, but then, I've enjoyed all of them so far!

Marian Hawke by Mattruss

Now it's my turn to say I have no idea who this character is. I aren't really one for big fantasy games. Still I like a challenge. I did the female Hawke version but I was originally going to do both male and female until I realised Dragon Age had Dragons in it (Duh!) I did her with a dragon. Put actual effort into this one. About 2 and a half hours worth. Check out the roughs on my own blog here. (Psst the dragon I drew was Lockheed from the X-men)

Marian Hawke by Quail

Here is Doomed Patrol's very first guest submission by Quail!

Look at that armour set, her AC is so high she won't have trouble warding the darkspawn off! This should be a DLC armour...

Hawke(mage) by Lok Ian

Trying to use as many different style as I can with my Doomed patrol works, this time, I used brush and ink! Coloured in photoshop, was gonna photocopy it and watercolour over it, but... ah well! :D

I wondered if I should just have left the background blank afterall...

New mission!

Sorry for the delay, patrol! In anticipation of the upcoming Dragon Age II, we are to draw Garrett/Marian Hawke, he is the main character of Dragon Age II, the Champion of Kirkwall, son/daughter of an apostate mage and a noble woman. You may include any number of Dragon Age II character or just have Hawke being awesome on his/her own! You have a week to finish this task!

Let's Dragon Age!

*'II' means '2'.

Metal Men by JoeHullion

So yeah! As has been repeatedly mentioned by others here, I had no idea who these guys were! Decided to go for a more modern take on them which I found in my researching. Quick sketch. Hour and a half. Liked the composition and everything as-was so decided not to add the whole team or colour the characters. Might go back and have a look at colouring it later.

Decided to give Doc Magnus a big, curly pipe. Because they are cool. Deal with it.

Metal Men by Abi

Hey guys!

Sorry for the delay on this one but university work and other commitments have been keeping me super busy lately. So without further delay, I present to you my Metal Men illustration!

I thought this was going to be a weird one to draw, but I took to the characters really well (despite not having heard of them previously) and had an absolute blast sketching this out.
It also gave me the chance to see the Metal Men character designs for when they featured in the Batman cartoon series The Brave and the Bold, which are just incredible!

Anyway, enough yapping, hope you like it! :)

メタルメン

Like the others, I have never heard of Metal Men before, but the whole idea of having 6 colour-coded superheroes team, just remind me of Power Rangers, hence, I bring you 金属戦隊メタルメン6... which roughly translates to "Ian is so amazing, you should all pay him to breath."

Lineart with dip pen again(practice practice), then coloured in photoshop.

PS. The Japanese just says "Metalic Corps Metal Men 6".
